The Rules.

The rule-book for the Eurovision Song Contest runs to several pages. Here are several (and by several I mean eight) rules that any newcomer to Eurovision needs to know.

  1. Contestants can be from any country. (Even Canada.)

  2. Songs can be performed in any language.

  3. Songs must be performed live.

  4. Songs must be original and no more than three minutes long.

  5. No more than six people can be on stage at any one time.

  6. Songs must not contain any political messages.

  7. Nudity and profanity are not permitted.

  8. The winning country hosts the following year’s contest.
